New Delhi and Mumbai residents queue up outside stores to buy essentials, minutes after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the countrys 1.3 billion people will go under "total lockdown" for 21 days to combat the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
This will bring to more than 2.6 billion, the number of people who are in lockdown across the globe.
The Pakistani army has been called in to help impose nationwide restrictions.
Egypt has declared a curfew from 7 PM to 6 AM for two weeks as of Wednesday.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo declared a state of emergency and ordered the capital Kinshasa isolated from the rest of the country. Both rival governments in Libya also imposed lockdowns.
